KASBOEK® XVI, Pop-Up Hero is the sixteenth art project by art collectieve KASBOEK. The project focuses on heroes. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, from Don Quixote to Superman. Do they have superpowers? Do they sacrifice themselves to save others? What is the status of “the hero” in these times of divisiveness, digitalisation and individualism, when developments and events unfold at an ever increasing speed?

As part of one of the prototypes of Cultuurnetwerk Roosendaal, we are looking for personal heroes. Mother, neighbour, sister, faraway friend, young or old, famous or anonymous. In 140 characters or less, people say who is a hero and why. In this way, participants shine a light on their own personal heroes, paying them a meaningful compliment.

Nominated heroes receive a notification and an invitation to nominate their own hero too. Every hero is a link in the Pop-Up Chain of Heroes, which grows using the same principle as chain letters. On this website, KASBOEK collects the hero stories as they pop up: watch the hero network spread.

Be a hero, name a hero!

Cultuurnetwerk Roosendaal invited us to create a work for their project “prototypes: Helden van Roosendaal”, about the inhabitants of Roosendaal. The idea is to catch stories and expose the ideas and experiences behind them. The project kicked off on 13 October 2017 at shopping centre Roselaar in Roosendaal.

You are the hero of your own story
